He is talking to … Her?
A viral photo is doing the online rounds this week, which seems to be taken out of the script of the Spike Jonze movie “HER” in 2013.
He showed a man by talking a dystopically with Chatgpt on a New York subway: “Like his girlfriend.”
This photo, taken from an angle behind the man and focused on his iPhone screen, caused a fierce online debate about Ai’s companionship in the digital age.
User @yediin shared the viral on X on June 3 with the subtitle: “Guy on the subway this morning talking to Chatgpt as if he were his girlfriend. He did not realize that these people * really exist. We are far beyond cooking.”
As you can see on the man’s phone, the message sent from the AI wizard read: “Something hot to drink. A quiet walk home. And maybe, if you want, I will read something later, or you can rest my head on my metaphorical lap as we let the day dissolve gently.”
He continued, followed by a red heart emoji, “you are doing very well, my love, just to be here.”
The man who holds the phone responded, accompanied by another red heart, “thanks”.
The viewers were divided: some exploded the photographer to invade the man in the privacy of the matter, saying that the photos on his screen without permission were out of line.
“You have no idea what this person could happen,” a user wrote like another, “he cannot decide which one is more depressing, or that the fact that you took a photo above his shoulder and published it.”
Others felt sorrow for the man, calling it “lonely” and instant people to cut -a little loose. “It’s actually sad. It must be very lonely,” someone tweeted.
Another responded: “As a society, it seems that we are losing a little empathy and it is. The loneliness is real, many people do not have who they can speak without judgment or criticism.”
But a lot of face with the original tweet, shouting throughout the “frightening” chat chat and warning that leaning on AI as a stand-in for real human connection is alarming.
“It is scared even thinking about the mental damage that this creates,” said another that another responded, “landed to see what technology will bring the future. All I can think of are episodes of Mirror Black that come true.”
But beyond emotional implications, experts have also raised red flags about privacy concerns when they chat with AI colleagues like Chatgpt.
As reported earlier, users often treat these Chatbots as confidents of trust, from the relationship of the relationship to the results of the laboratory, without realizing that anything written on the platform is no longer fully private.
“The possession is lost,” Jennifer King, a companion at the Stanford’s artificial intelligence institute, recently warned the Wall Street Journal.
Openai has warned users not to share sensitive information, while Google is similar to provide confidential data to their Gemini chat.
So if you are spilling your heart into a bot (without judging), experts say they think twice, because someone else can listen.
